I got the answer today. We began working at the school today and there is an obvious language barrier between the Americans and the Haitians. But some things are universal…things like a hug, a smile, a high-five, playing or even a pat on the back. Those small things are the way that we are “the light” in Haiti. We do lots of stuff while here–see patients, build buildings and plant gardens; but the Haitians aren’t excited to see us because we do that. They’re excited because they remember “the light” that came because we spent time with them and because we loved them!]]>
